Bharathidasan University to admit 1,000 Chinese students by December,
2008
It has appointed Sailcon Beijing Eduation Company Limited
as its representative
- Chinese students would be provided English
coaching for duration of three and six months
- It will identify established affiliated institutions
to offer some of the programmes
TIRUCHI: Bharathidasan University has appointed Sailcon Beijing
Eduation Company Limited, China, as its representative for facilitating
admission of Chinese students in the university and affiliated
colleges.
The university has signed a memorandum of understanding with
Sailcon, vesting the latter with the a set of responsibilities
that include making presentations and offering counselling at
targeted schools and colleges in China; participation in appropriate
promotional events; and arranging public relation events and
press coverage and selecting students eligible for admission
to various programmes.
Chinese students deem India as a favoured destination for higher
education valuing the opportunities for developing their English
communication skills.
Advancements in IT sector had stood India in good stead, said
Vice-Chancellor Ponnavaikko.
He informed that the university would be in a position to admit
as many as 1,000 Chinese students by December, 2008, for the
following programmes: B.Sc. Computer Science, B.C.A., B.E. Computer
Science and Engineering, B.E. Information Technology, B.B.A.,
M.E. Computer Science and Engineering, M.E. Information Technology,
M.E. Software Engineering, M.B.A. and M.C.A.
Chinese students would also be provided English coaching for
durations of three and six months.
Tamil study included
The undergraduate programmes that would be devised specifically
for the Chinese students will also include a component in basic
Tamil study.
Sailcon would arrange for adapting the students of China where
11 years of schooling is in vogue to the higher educational
requirements in India for a year to make them eligible for the
undergraduate admission.
Though the university would offer all the programmes on its
premises through its School of Engineering, it would also identify
established affiliated institutions which would be able to provide
air-conditioned hostel rooms and Chinese food to offer some
of the programmes.
