Panel to scrutinise courses offered by 10 private varsities
- Committee to submit report in three months
- Panel to focus on nature of courses, fees
Chennai: The Madras High Court has constituted a fact-finding
committee, headed by Justice K.P. Sivasubramaniam, retired judge
of the High Court, to ascertain the nature of the study programmes/courses
conducted by 10 private universities and the fee collected.
In the case of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysis
of India (ICFAI) Society and ICFAI University the expert committee
shall ascertain the nature of the learning programmes and fees.
Authorities’ approval
In the case of eight other universities, the committee shall
find out the nature of the courses, whether they were approved
by statutory authorities and nature of fees collected for various
programmes.
The universities are: D.B. Jain Institute of Business Management
and Research; International Council for Management Studies;
National Institute of Business Management; National Institute
of Human Resource Development; NIFT-TEA Knitwear Fashion Institute;
Great Lakes Institute of Management; RAI University and the
Stansfield School of Business.
Panel members
The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice
P. Jyothimani, passing orders on two public interest litigation
petitions, said the fact-finding committee shall comprise Justice
K.P. Sivasubramaniam; former vice-chancellor of Mother Teresa
University Vasanthi Devi; former vice-chancellor of Bharathidasan
University P. Jagadeesan; an officer each from the All India
Council for Technical Education and the University Grants Commission;
and the Secretary of Higher Education, Government of Tamil Nadu.
“Pertinent issues”
Directing the committee to submit its report within three months,
the Bench said the issues to be considered were pertinent to
decide the points involved in the two public interest litigation
petitions.
