TNEA 2007 selection criteria in a tie-breaker
Chennai: The State Government on Friday released the guidelines
for selecting BE/BTech courses aspirants through the Single
Window System of Counselling for both Government and management
quota seats in engineering colleges.
While the rank list will be drawn up as per the marks secured
by students in the main subjects in Plus Two Board examinations,
the Government has come up with a five point tie-breaker in
case two students secured the same rank.
In the first step, the candidate with a higher score in Mathematics
will get preference. If the Mathematics score of the two candidates
are same, then the Physics marks will be taken into consideration.
If that too fails to break the tie, the marks scored in the
optional subject (Biology or Computer Science) will be accounted
for. As a fourth step, the aspirant who is senior in age (date
of birth) will be given priority.
If the dates of birth are also similar, then a random number
(lots) will be picked by the computer, an official release said.
APPLICATION FORMS FROM MAY 16
Applications for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA
2007) will be issued from May 16 and the rank list will be published
on June 25, the State Government announced on Friday. The notification
for TNEA 2007 will be issued on May 13.
Centralised Single Window Counselling for admitting students
to BE/BTech courses in 247 colleges across Tamil Nadu will begin
at the Anna University (Chennai) on July 9 and conclude on August
15. Classes for the freshers will commence on August 20.
In a significant decision, the Government announced that even
admissions to the management quota seats in self-financing engineering
colleges must be made through the Single Window System of Counselling
to be conducted by the Consortium of Self-Financing Engineering,
Professional and Arts and Science Colleges.
“The Government will not approve admissions made without
conducting the SWS counselling,” an official release said.
The decision virtually puts managements of several engineering
colleges in the State in a tight spot as it is reliably learnt
that most of them had “unofficially” completed filling
up the management quota seats over the past three months.
Parents, who had jumped the gun, to ‘book’ a seat
for their sons and daughters by paying a hefty donation running
into a few lakh rupees, will also find themselves in a quandary,
observers said.
