Anna varsity releases engineering merit list

The State government is trying to ensure that medical seats are filled based on its admission process using Class 12 marks whereas the Supreme Court had ruled that the admission across the country would be through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

“The State government is awaiting the President’s nod for the two legislations passed against making NEET mandatory for medical admission for its quota of seats in medical colleges,” Mr. Anbalagan said.

In the merit list of TNEA-2017, 59 candidates have scored centum. Of this, 36 are eligible for medicine too. Similarly, in the cut-off ranges of 199, 198 and 197, there are 5,376 eligible students.

Four of the five among the top 10 in the academic stream in the merit list, however, told The Hindu they planned to pursue engineering.

One girl student, ranked fourth, said she was awaiting NEET results. In the vocational stream, the topper had scored 199.83 marks.

Of the 1,41,077 applications received this year, 1,36,988 candidates were declared eligible for counselling.
