Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) / 12 / XII / Twelveth - Results 2011

Monday, 23 May 2011: The Chennai region, comprising southern and western States, has surpassed other regions to chalk the highest pass percentage of 91.32 in All-India Senior School Certificate Examination 2011, results of which were declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday.

Last year the pass percentage was 92.17 and in 2009, 92.06. The results of Patna region is yet to be announced. Like last year, girls outshone boys with a pass percentage of 93.21. The pass percentage of boys is 89.79.

The pass percentage of candidates from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan was 94.73, while Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya scored 98.32. The number of students placed under compartment also increased from 3050 last year to 3595 this time.

Tamil Nadu recorded a pass percentage of 96.84, where a total of 6,750 students appeared for the examination.

Additional chance
Announcing the results, R. Sundaram, Regional Officer in-charge, CBSE, Chennai region, said students placed in compartment are those who have not cleared one subject and they are given an additional chance to appear for the exam. The exam will be conducted in July and students must apply for it along with the marksheet.

Schools rejoice
Although the results came in much later than the State Board's announcement, many schools following the CBSE stream in the city had much to rejoice with the scores. School principals were thrilled to speak about centum students scored.

It was a hectic day for S. Dhivya, a student of Modern Senior Secondary School, Nanganallur, who scored a total of 492.

She got to know her marks at 9.45 a.m. and since then calls started pouring in. Television crew lined up at the school to interview her.

As CBSE does not award individual ranks, one has to wait to see if Dhivya is among the All-India toppers. Last year, the all-India topper scored 490 and she was from Chennai.

“I have always been consistent in my studies. Even during study holiday, I was occupied with my books,” said Dhivya, who scored a centum in Sanskrit.

Although many school toppers were happy with their total, many sounded pessimistic also about getting a seat in Anna University or Madras Medical College, the most sought-after institutions.

K.A. Sumana, who scored 491 in science group, said she is pinning hopes on Kilpauk Medical College or Stanley Medical College. “I have scored centum in Maths and Biology, but getting a seat is not going to be that easy,” said the student of P.S. Senior Secondary School.
