In nineteen seventies there were requirements for specialised technical manpower
to monitor exclusively key areas like weaving, textile wet processing.
Knitting, garment manufacture and marketing. No body ventured to offer
courses and train technicians separately to satisfy such needs of
industry. The S.S.M. family of Industrialists with Founder Chairman
Thiru. S.S.M Subarmaniam at Komarapalayam took up this challenge
with social out lock and promoted a govt. aided Polytechnic - "S.S.M.
Institute of Textile Technology & Polytechnic College " in
1979 under SS.Marichettiar Trust (G.O. No. 1236 dt. 17.07.1979) to
educate and provide disciplined technical man power with specialization
for the various sections of textile manufacturing sectors. The family
has since then committed to the cause of enriching the professionalism
in the textile industry to fulfill the long felt need of such an Institute
of far - reaching significance in the industrial - scenario. The polytechnic
has later on diversified to cover the filed of computer technology,
Introduction of Information Technology, Electronics & communication
Engineering & Electrical and Electronics Engineering is under
way.
The Diploma and Post Diploma courses offered in the polytechnic have been approved
by all India Councial for Technical Education, New Delhi (No. F.24
- 21/82 - T.5), the Central Government and Directorate of Technical
Education and Training, Government of Tamilnadu.

The polytechnic has undergone modernization programme in terms of building, machineries
and equipments under the World Bank Scheme of Directorate of Technical
Education, Chennai. The total built - up area of buildings containing
classrooms, various laboratories, boys & girls hostel work out
to be 1 lakh sq.feet.
Library
Well furnished library with good atmosphere for reading is available.
We have a good collection of a wide variety of specialised books in
every branch of textile, computer, information technology and electrical
& electronics. The library has over 7500 Indian & Foreign
technical & books and it regularly subscribes to many recognised
journals books and it regularly subscribes to many recognised journals
and periodicals. The back volumes of periodicals since 1980 are available.
Communication Laboratory
World Bank sponsored Communication Laboratory has been established
to offer effective training for developing communication skills in
spoken English with latest audio visual learning systems and practice
oriented methodology.
Hostels
Separate hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls.
The hostel has been constructed to accommodate 300 students. The mess
is run on dividing system by the committee of students. Conducive
atmosphere exists for studying and enjoying extra - curricular activities
at the hostel.
Bus Facility
The institute is having its own buses for the benefit of the students
and staff for their daily conveyance and industrial visits. The buses
are run from polytechnic to Bhavani, Erode, Tiruchengode, Mettur,
Salam.

Our efforts are focused to genuinely achieve this objective as we have 23 years
of track record of link reputed industries throughout the country.
Our Diplomas are well recognised in the Industry with full appreciation
for the professional skills of our diploma holders. A grate demand for
employment exists for our students. Nearly 50 campus interviews are
conducted by reputed mills between February and March every year to
absorb 250 students of all branches. Our Alumni are employed in responsible
positions through out the country and they have established reputation
for professional excellence with their authorities. Hence, the executives
of reputed companies insist on employing the students from our Institute.
A separate placement cell managed by placement officer is available.
Good industry - institute interaction for promoting employment opportunities
and in plant training for our students are salient features of the placement
cell. Hence, the purpose of educating the students and assuring the
benefits of career is accomplished with a great drive and enthusiasm
by all the departments with the coordination of Placement Officer.
