Sona School of Management
(SSM) comes from the fold of Sona College of Technology & Thiagarajar
Polytechnic College, Salem. Founded by the late textile wizard,
Shri. M.S. Chockalingam, in 1997, the Sona Group of Institutions
have become a pioneer in technical education. It has an army of experts
in the art of educating people. The Chockalingam Trust manages the
institutions. Shri. C. Sundaram is the Chairman and Shri. C. Valliappa,
Vice-Chairman of the group. The Secretary, Shri. A. Dhirajlal, is
the man behind the steering wheel at Sona. The Principal, Prof. M.
Ramaswami, is a man of wide experience in Engineering Education.
Started
in 1998, Sona's MBA program plans to enlist National and International
students in the current academic year.
Our Vision: We resolve to produce of Top-Of-Mind practical
managers by giving masterly coaching to our students combined with
affordability and a pure B-School experience with a dedicated team
of mentors. While they learn to rise high above the average, they
also learn a sense of social commitment. They train to excel individually,
yet achieve results with team spirit, globally thinking, yet retain
the Indian eye to grasp realities of all around them. All in all,
we strive to turn them into all-round corporate managers in terms
of physical, emotional, intellectual, social and moral character.
Our Mission: Sona stands for giving its managerial aspirants with
tomorrow's learning experience at today's classroom. This we shall
do so by keeping pace with the changes in the industry, adopting to
modern management methods besides continuously upgrading the quality
of our faculty. We shall mould our students with right tools so they
become competent managers in high-wire management. This will be our
blueprint for their success.

SSM sits at the heart of the `Steel City' Salem in Tamilnadu. By a fast train,
Bangalore is just 3-hour away. Or 4-hour by road. Chennai, well-connected
by frequent super fast trains. Coimbatore is its next-door neighbour.
It has easy access to all metros. Daily trains from New Delhi, Mumbai,
Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram pass by Salem Junction.
Your campus is surrounded by hills on all sides and particularly, the Shervoroy
hills in the east. Just feel the Arcadian environment all around you.
Campus location is far from centers of population, and yet not far
from the main city area. Housed in a sprawling campus of 17.5 acres,
it has a built up space of 2,65,000 sq. ft. At first look, the main
building is non-campus, unobtrusive, and corporate in looks and construction.
A marvel of architectural triumph. It has the best of infrastructure and state-of-the-art
facilities. The campus life is lively, the whole air pleasant. The
environs non-hazardous.
The main Computer Center has 180 nodes connected to 4 Servers in a
high-speed LAN using 100 Mbps manageable switches. We use major brands
like Compaq and IBM.
Leased line internet connection: Internet browsing at any of the 90 systems
with 1 Mbps Leased Line Connectivity. The computer labs are open from
8.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Hardware:
Server Configuration : Intel Pentium IV, 600 MHz, 256 MB SD-RAM, 18.2
GB HDD, 15" Colour monitor, 52X CD-ROM drive. Intel Pentium IV,
700 MHz, 64 MB SD-RAM, 8.2 GB HDD, 15" Colour Monitor, 52X CD-ROM
drive.
Software Platform::The students can work in any of the three Network Operating
Systems: Windows NT,Sun Solaris, Linux, High-end machines from HCL,
Wipro, IBM and HP are used as nodes and servers. The center has multimedia
facility for 90 nodes. There are four numbers ofof 10 KVA UPS with
half hour backup to handle the total power failure.Three Compaq laptops
and one IBM notebook are available for use.
Library:The School has a separate library for Management Studies.
Its reading rooms have shelf after shelf of books stocked for your
studies.
The Library has 5,000 volumes on Management program. Plus audiocassettes and CD-ROMs
on Management. National and International Journals, handbooks. A leased
line Internet connection.The Central Library has a collection of over
24,000 documents covering all disciplines. It includes books, back
volumes, standards, atlases, audio/video cassettes, CD-ROMs. The Central
Library receives 214 journals: Indian and Foreign. It subscribes to
Electronic journals (E-JIS) developed by Infotrac Gale.
The Library uses Autolib, an Integrated Library Management software package for
library housekeeping. It keeps a database of 24,000 records of books
and periodicals. Using Autolib OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalogue),
you can search the on-line catalogue by author's name, title, subject
or keyword. You can work at late hours at the library to handle your
projects.
The Central Library is a member of American Information Resource Center
(AIRC). This gives you access to books and resource material not available
on the campus library. Visitors have access to 24-terminals at the
library to browse the Internet at a blazing speed of 1 Mbps leased
line. The library has also media sources such as videocassettes, CDs
and viewing and listening facilities. Other facilities include: -
Hostel: Room and board is available for boys and girls at separate hostels.
Each room has a table, chair, cot and fan. You will not miss out on
comforts. We care for your on-campus living. A sprawling new international
hostel complex is emerging at a cost of rupees 20 million besides
the existing one along with a world-class swimming pool.
An able staff of Warden, Dy. Warden, Asst. Warden, Residential Tutors,
and Mess Representatives are at hand round the clock.

The Sona placement office is dedicated to give you the tools and Information
you need to launch a Successful career. By the time you complete your
studies you will learn that Sona MBAs are in demand by businesses
throughout India and Overseas.
In recent years, students have had excellent placement records. This success
is partially because of the quality of students who attend the School
of Management and also because the placement office works hard to
match Student and Company goals.
Corporate Business participate in our Placement Programs. The Placement Office
organizes on-campus and off-campus recruiting annually and aggressively
targets Employers to recruit Sona MBAs. To best serve the student
