Sona College of Technology was founded
in the year 1997, by Thiru .M.S. Chocklingam, a textile wizard
and philanthropist, who had abiding interest in professional Education
for industrial and economical growth of the country.
SONA College of Technology, Salem, Tamilnadu, India, offers a wide variety

Shervoroy Hills in the East, SONA College of Technology is situated
at the heart of the Salem city, adjoining elder sister institution
Thiagarajar Polytechnic College. The college is housed in the sprawling
campus of 20 acres with a built up of 2,65,000 sq.ft. It is well connected
by air and rail Metropolitan cities like Chennai, Bangalore, and Coimbatore.
Department of Mechnical Engineering : The department of Mechnical Engineering
is equipped with the best of resources to enrich the bloodline of
the department ensuring high quality education to the students. The
intense professional will of the faculty is the root for the sustained
excellence of the department. The state - of - the - art Laboratories,
the well - balanced curriculum and the faculty with iron - resolve
address the cognitive capacities as well as practical hands on workshop
experience of students in fulfilling the ever more pressing needs
of the industry.
Department of Computer Science: With the support of excellent
laboratory facilities with an ever - look - beyond attitude are destined
to bring forth engineers to rise up the terrific challenge for the
creation of fast processors and more efficient network which is the

Department of Information Technology: Since its inception in the year 1998,
the department with the well - kint faculty demonstrating high professionalism
puts the graduating on excellence steroids for peak mental - performance
needed to navigate among the opportunities abounding in today's world
of internet and e - revolution.
Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering: Harnessing
electrical energy is the challenge for electrical engineers. The power
packed EEE department inspires the budding Electrical Engineers with
the potent idea of Constructing Generating Stations, Transmission
Lines Distribution Systems at economical rates and to design, test
and supervise the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipments
used in electrical utilities, buildings, automobiles, air - crafts,
radar, navigation system and broad cast and communication systems.
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering: Information Transmission
in an efficient manner with least distortion is the overriding concern
of the Electronics and Communication Engineers. Staffed with faculty
deeply committed, the department function with a single purpose of
orienting the ardent students to the challenges of the industry, since
its inception in the year 1999. the well equipped laboratories add
to the strength of this team with their nerves in top gear.
Library: The Central Library has collection of over 23, 000
documents covering all discipline of science, Engineering and Technology.
The collection comprises books, back volumes, standards, atlases,
audio / video cassettes, CD - ROMS, etc. The central library currently
receives 214 journals both Indian and foreign, and also ha subscribed
for Electronic journals (E- JIS) which have been developed by INFOTRAC
GALEGROUP. Currently, E-JIS provides access to 150 journals in the
filed of Science and Technology.
The library has been using the Autolib, an Integrated Library Management Software
Package with all modules for the library housekeeping operations.
The Library Online Catalogue Database has more then 23,00 records
of books and periodicals.
Using Autolib OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalogue), Users can search
the Library on - line Catalogue by Author's name, title, subject and
keywords.

The placement, Training and Welfare Cell (PTW) is functioning for the benefit of
the students. The needs of placement efforts have been formalized,
through large - scale campus and off- campus interviews, whereby about
30 companies of National and Multinational repute send their experts
to interview students who are about about to graduate. The PTW cell
is another forum of counselling that benefits students in specific
areas. Infact, PTW cell is constantly in touch with the students on a formal
and informal basis to help them plan their future
