Meenakshi College for Women,
a Government - aided institution of higher education for women,
is affiliated to the University of Madras and has been a pioneer
in the field of higher education for close to 3 decades.
Meenakshi College enjoys an enviable track record in producing some of the
finest and most disciplined young women in the country, who excel
not only in academics and in the arts and sports. The College is
committed to shaping young women into skilled, responsible, disciplined
and socially conscious citizens with a strong value base.
Started on 4th August, 1975 during the International Women's Year
by the Ganapathi Educational Trust, the College has growth from an
initial strength of 100 students to around 3000. It is now a recognized
and vibrant institution working relentlessly for the cause of Women's
education. The College offers about 20 different courses in the Arts
and the Sciences, including post - graduate courses in streams such
as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Biochemistry, Tamil and
Public Administration as well as M.Phil. Courses in Mathematics, History
and Tamil. In 1999, the College became one of the youngest college
to be trusted with autonomy.
This temple of learning is an institution that works towards the goal
of continuous improvement in the discovery and sharing of knowledge
- a goal envisioned by the founder, late Sri K.R. Sundararajan, a
great Professor of Mathematics and a renowned pioneer of higher education
I the country. His life's mission was to provide young citizens with
quality education, so that they imbibe the cardinal virtues of Faith,
Fidelity and Fortitude.

Adequate Classrooms, Laboratories, Seminar Halls, Conference rooms, Auditoria,
sufficient toilet facilities etc are available. Adequate Furniture
have been provided. A separate power substation has been provided
in the College campus to ensure uninterrupted power supply. 3 latest
technology elevators (OTIS) are available. A special feature of
this institution is that it is having a large fully air conditioned
auditorium which can accomodate 3,000 persons.
Laboratory Facilities: Well equipped Laboratories for all the science courses
are available.
Library
(Subject wise catalogue of books Periodical and Journals): There
is a fully Air- conditioned state - of the - art - Library measuring
10,000 sq.ft with adequate furnitures namely, books, shelves, racks,
cupboards, tables and chairs for students and staff. A part from
looks in the general library, each department has a separate library.
Computer Facilities: There is a computer Laboratory named
"Abhinava Vidyatheertha Computer Center" which is provided
with 150 PC's with Accessories. Besides this, all Departments have
been provided with Computers and Internet connectivity.
Apart from the exclusive facilities provided for various departments,
the management has provided all facilities and proper atmosphere
for academic excellence and research.
The dedicated teaching and non teaching staff are extending their fullest
cooperation in the implementation pf autonomy in its true spirit.
Another
special feature observed was the immediate implementation of the
UGC instruction of introducing environmental studies for all courses
in this academic year itself, with full involvement of all the staff
members (Teaching and Non - Teaching) and cooperation of the students.
Anna University has chosen our college as a center for online registration
for Tamilnadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination considering
the infrastructure and involvement of our staff.

The placement cell is busy throughout the year. From June to December,
it is busy with providing the Database of students who have graduated
to reputed companies, when they approach the cell. From December to
May it is busy with arranging campus interviews from various companies.
Every year the cell collects the biodata of the students in the final
year.
Some of the companies which have conducted campus interviews in the college
are Juno online services Development Pvt. Ltd., the largest provider
of free internet services in the USA, GE Capital International services,
Cognizant Technological Solutions, WIPRO, HCL, Citicorps credit
services, LAPIZ Digital Services, Tidel Park, Frost & Sullivan,
an international strategic marketing consulting research and training
company, CBSI now know as Convansys, Spencer's group of companies
and DSQ software Ltd. Every year more than five hundred of our girls
are shortlisted and appointed in the companies.
We also invite Entrepreneurs to our campus so that they can motivate
our students to start a job by themselves and also create job for
many others. Some of our students have become Entrepreneurs. As
and when job opportunities are intimated to us by the companies,
the cell displays the details to the students on the notice board,
so that they maybe able to apply directly to them. The placement
cell of our college is always willing to supply information about
alumni when the companies approach us. As our students are well
disciplined and hard working more and more placement opportunities
come to our college.
As the work of the placement cell has increased this year we have selected
2 more students to assist placement secretary in the College Student's
union.
