As one of the leading institutions of Ayurveda which had turned out outstanding practitioners of the science,the Venkataramana Ayurvedic college was recognized as a college that could impart instruction leading to the degree of B.A.M.S. When these courses were introduced in 1979. The university of Madras as the degree awarding University granted affiliated status to the Venkataramana Ayurvedic College.

The Venkataramana Ayurvedic College thereafter continued to award B.A.M.S degrees and transferred its affiliated the Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R.Medical university as required along with other Medical colleges in 1989. The Venkataramana Ayurveda college makes generous use of hospital and instructional facilities available in the city of Chennai to complement the facilities available to it in house.
