In the year 1984, Muthayammal Educational Trust was established to create higher educational facilities to poor rural people who could not go to towns and cities in pursuit of higher education. The trust is started by Mr.R.Ramasamy as a Chairman, Mr.K.P.Ramaswamy as a Secretary and Mr.R.Kandasamy as a Treasurer, while Er.K.Gunasekaran as a Executive Director, Mr.R.Jayaprakash as a Admission Director, Mr.R.Muthuvel as a Academic Director, Tmt Sulochana Ramaswamy, Tmt Ammani Kandasamy, Mr. R.Premkumar as a Member of the Trust.
In the year 1984, the Trust entered its first Foot-print with Muthayammal Polytechnic College. Its second Foot -print with Muthayammal Arts and Science College in the year 1994 Its third Foot-print with Muthayammal Industrial Training Institute in the year 1999. It advanced its steps towards Muthayammal Engineering College in the year of 2000.
The Muthayammal Engineering College envisions achieving rural upliftment through imparting high quality technical education. The Muthayammal Engineering College was started in the year 2000 – 2001 is a co-educational self financing institution approved by the AICTE, New Delhi. Affiliated to the Anna University, Chennai, the college has gained recognition as a novel, state of the art engineering college that imparts technical education in line with international norms.
The learning environment in this college is one that brings together the best of infrastructure and human resource, enriching the treasure of knowledge the students aspire for.
Apart from a well designed curriculum for each subject, the college also places equal importance on all-round development of the students. At this College, knowledge assimilation is seen as an opportunity to encourage creative and innovative approaches to mastering the subject.

The College is located at Rasipuram, 240km away from Bangalore, 165km away from Coimbatore and 36km away from Salem on the Rasipuram-Attur State highway. The nearest bus terminal & railway junction are Rasipuram and Salem respectively. If you have light luggage you could consider taking a bus to MEC from Rasipuram Bus Terminal.
