Inter-college technical meet gets under way
More than 25 colleges participate in the annual event this year

Tambaram: ‘Robolympix,' the second annual national-level inter-college technical meet on robotics got under way at SRM University in Kattankulathur on Friday.
The three-day event is being organised by students of all streams of B.Tech and has attracted participation from more than 25 colleges from Tamil Nadu and other States. The student organisers said when they conducted the meet for the first time last year, 16 colleges had participated and they wanted to bring in more institutions this year.
Manish Kumar Singh, a final year B.Tech student and convenor of the meet, said robotics found wide applications among students pursuing different disciplines of engineering. The objective of the meet was to encourage students to create models of robots that would have practical applications in daily walks of life.
Arpith Kulshresth, a student organiser, said events included ‘Line Faller,' and ‘Water Polo' among others. Twelve arenas had been created where the robots would be tested before the winning entries are selected. Models could be created in a few hours depending on their design and size. The students said interest in robotics was growing at a rapid pace among students and even educational institutions were coming forward to include the subject in the curriculum of all disciplines.
