Campus connect
An Assessment and Development Centre for students was inaugurated
at the Madurai Institute of Social Sciences by C. Thangaraj,
Vice-Chancellor, Kalasalingam University. D.V.P. Raja, secretary
of the college, presided. P.N. Narayana Raja, Principal, explained
the objectives and need for such centre in the college. S. Murugesan,
Coordinator of the centre, welcomed the gathering. Iyappan.
K. Raj, General Manager, Tube Investment of India, explained
the concept of Assessment a nd Development Centre.
Assessment and development is a process used for identifying
areas where behaviour and competencies can be bettered. The
assessors use multiple techniques like group discussion, case
study method, in-tray exercise, role play method, business games
and focused interview, to assess the skills and capabilities
of students. This process provides feedback to students on developmental
needs.
A two-day assessment programme was conducted by Mr. Iyappan;
G. Ramesh, General Manager, Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceutical;
P. Jawahar Jesudoss, Business Analyst, Royal Infotech; R.S.
Prabhakar, Manager, Manali Petrochemicals, and S. Janakiraman,
Manager, KCP. Twenty three students, specialising in HR, attended
the programme. Based on the assessment, development plans were
prepared for every student to sharpen skills and capabilities
needed for the future HR managers. T.M. Venkatamurugan proposed
a vote of thanks.
About 500 students from the southern districts participated
in a walk-in interview organised by Sethu Institute of Technology
in association with Sutherland Global Services. The programme
was open to graduates and diploma holders who had completed
their courses between 2001 and 2008. B. E. students with four
arrear papers were allowed to attend the interview. A. Senthilkumar,
Principal, SIT, inaugurated the programme. S. M. Premkumar of
Sutherland Global Services explained the concept of BPO and
its domain function. Twelve candidates were selected for employment
at the interview.
A workshop on ‘Key concepts in nursing research’
was inaugurated by Josephine Little Flower, Registrar, Tamil
Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, at Sacred Heart Nursing College.
In her address, Dr. Josephine highlighted the need for evidence-based
practice among nurses. KR. Arumugam, chairman, Ultra Trust,
presided. Juliet Sylvia welcomed the gathering. Nalini Jeyavantha
Santha, Principal, underlined the importance of research and
the future directions of nursin g research. A.V. Raman, Dean,
Omayal Achi College of Nursing, Chennai, also spoke.
First year students of Velammal College of Engineering and Technology
participated in an orientation programme on ‘life skills’
organised by the college. G. Gurubharathy and M. Kannan, consultants,
M. S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation, spoke about
life and life skills. N. Suresh Kumar, Principal, welcomed the
gathering.
Over 100 children were treated at a free medical camp organised
by C. S. I. Jeyaraj Annapackiam College of Nursing, in collaboration
with Christian Mission Hospital, on Children’s Day. A.
Charles, Medical Director, Selva Pramila, Paediatrician, and
Evangeline checked the children. A puppet show on personal hygiene
and worm infestation was conducted by students of B. Sc. (Nursing).
A health exhibition was also organised on the occasion. Dr.
Charles distributed prizes to winners of ‘healthy baby’
contest at the valedictory session. C. Jothi Sophia, Principal,
delivered the valedictory address.
