Coimbatore: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India
(ICAI), New Delhi, has entered into a memorandum of understanding
with Bharathiar University to offer degree courses for chartered
accountancy students and members of the ICAI.
An MoU to this effect was signed by Vice-Chancellor of the university
G. Thiruvasagam, and President of ICAI Ved Jain here on Thursday.
Bharathiar University will offer B.Com., M.Com., BBA and MBA
degree programmes to students pursuing chartered accountancy
courses and also to chartered accountants.
Entrance exam
It will also be extended to those who have passed the entrance
or foundation examinations or CA intermediate level examination.
“The course will be specially designed for them and will
be for nine months. Enrolment can be done online from December
5. Courses are expected to begin in January 2009. Contact classes
will be held at the various chapters of the ICAI all over India.
Examinations will be conducted and degrees given by the university,”
the Vice-Chancellor said.
Nearly a lakh students took the ICAI foundation examinations
every year. Almost all of them are expected to enrol for any
of the degree programmes.
Those who had completed graduation could enrol for M.Com. or
MBA.
The practising chartered accountants are expected to enrol for
the MBA programmes.
The commerce degree programmes were designed in such a manner
that the CA students would be exempted from taking papers that
they already studied in the CA course, thus avoiding duplication.
