Coimbatore: A distance learning centre of Bharathiar University
has been set up in Washington, the United States, and Toronto
in Canada, Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam told a press conference
here on Tuesday.
This is in addition to the ones in Kuwait, Dubai and Singapore.
According to him, the Indians living in Washington and Toronto
had evinced interest in the setting up of such centres. “They
are interested in courses such as MBA, MCA, BCA, and BBA, besides
the Integrated four-year B. Sc. Programme the university planned
to launch in the next academic year,” Mr. Thiruvasagam
said.
The infrastructure and faculty would be taken care of locally
while study material would be sent from the university.
Examinations would be conducted and degrees awarded by the university.
The Vice-Chancellor expected that the enrolment would be 2,500
to 3,000 by the next academic year.
Bharathiar University and University of Maryland had entered
into an understanding to offer a three-year degree programme
in Aviation Science from the next academic year. “Students
pursuing the course will study for two years at an affiliated
college of Bharathiar University and one year at University
of Maryland.
Faculty from the U.S. will visit to engage classes”.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, colleges with adequate infrastructure
and faculty would be permitted to offer the course.
