Bharathidasan University convocation as scheduled
It hopes weather condition will improve by then
Tiruchi: Bharathidasan University has decided to go ahead with
the conduct of its 25th convocation scheduled for Saturday.
Though the university is aware of the travails outstation graduands
have to face to come over to receive their degrees, the authorities
are of the view that the convocation cannot be delayed any further
in the interests of the student community who, they say, cannot
be made to wait any further to receive their original certificates.
Those pursuing higher studies or in jobs are in a compulsive
situation to submit their original degree certificates in time.
Citing past precedents of conduct of convocation on rainy days,
university sources said the event will be conducted with the
strength of graduands who manage to arrive. The university is
hopeful that the inclement weather conditions will subside by
then.
Also, the authorities feel it is difficult at this juncture
to reschedule the appointments of the dignitaries: the Governor
Surjit Singh Barnala, State Minister for Higher Education K.
Ponmudi, and the chief guest A. Sivathanupillai, Chief Controller
(R & D), Defence Research and Development Organisation.
Only after the university conducts the convocation can affiliated
colleges replicate the ceremony at their individual levels,
the Vice-Chancellor K. Ponnavaikko said.
Meanwhile, a press release issued here today by the district
administration confirmed the participation of the dignitaries
in the convocation at 11.00 a.m. in the university premises.
