Maritime University to offer six new courses
Chennai: The Indian Maritime University will offer six new courses
of which three will be MBA programmes, said P. Vijayan, Vice-Chancellor
of the University here on Tuesday.
Talking to reporters, Dr. Vijayan said that the three MBA programmes
are – Maritime Management, Port Management and International
Transportation and Logistics Management.
While the University would tie up with the IIM, Ahmedabad for
the Maritime Management programme, the second programme would
be conducted in association with Dalian Maritime University,
China and the third one would be with Shangai Maritime University,
China and Antwerp University, Belgium. Degree in Maritime Law,
Dredging and a certificate course in management for senior sea
faring officers were the other courses the University would
offer, he said.
The professional college functioning in the country that were
offering courses on maritime would get approval from the Indian
Maritime University hereafter. Till now these institutions were
getting the approval from Director General of Shipping, Dr.
Vijayan said.
The University’s headquarters will be at Chennai and it
would be built in 106 acre land. . The estimated capital cost
of the university building would be Rs.245 crore. Work would
be completed by 2010, he added.
