Madurai varsity gears up to re-launch B.Ed
Madurai: Madurai Kamaraj University is gearing up to re-launch
B. Ed. course through distance education following the official
inspection undertaken by a team from National Council for Teacher
Education (NCTE) on November 15.
Official sources said on Friday that the varsity had received
information that the three-member team, which made an on-the-spot
assessment, had given its approval for offering B. Ed. through
the Directorate of Distance Education.
However, a formal communication in this regard is expected only
after a week and after that the university will take steps for
offering the course.
“Only those school teachers who are in service and have
two years of experience can enrol for the programme. Actual
eligibility guidelines will be announced as and when the NCTE
approval is obtained,” a senior varsity official said.
The university stopped offering B. Ed. through distance education
stream in 1999. One entire floor has been provided for B.Ed.
admissions for the Directorate of Distance Education to handle
the expected rush for admission in the university.
Varsity officials said that five affiliated colleges of MKU
have been identified to run the course on revenue sharing basis.
