35 B.Ed students stage dharna

Vedaranyam: Thirty-five students of a teachers’ training institute in Tamaraipulam village near here staged a demonstration opposite the taluk office after the institute could not get government approval for its course.

About a hundred students were studying at the institute and were scheduled to write the B.Ed examinations on November 24.

However, since the institute could not get approval for its course until now, the students demanded their certificates and fees back.

The management said that they had filed a case in the court and would get approval before the exams.

Peace meeting
A peace meeting organised by the tahsildar and the Revenue Divisional Officer did not succeed.

Finally the students dispersed only around 1.30 a.m. after the management gave them back their certificates and cheques for the tuition fees.
