Uniform syllabus for Tamil under preparation
Tamil University engaged in the work
Thanjavur: Tamil University is engaged in preparing a uniform
syllabus for Tamil for all colleges and Universities as per
a direction from the Government, said M. Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor,
Tamil University, here on Tuesday.
Responding to suggestions made by students and professors at
a discussion meeting held at the University that uniform syllabus
was essential, the Vice-Chancellor said that this matter was
discussed at the Vice-Chancellors’ meeting held recently
where the need for a uniform syllabus was emphasised.
Tamil University has taken up the task of preparing a uniform
syllabus for Tamil in B.A., M.A courses, to be followed by all
colleges and Universities in the State.
The discussion was organised to mark the birthday celebrations
of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Union Education Minister.

“The late Azad, being an educationist, journalist, poet,
etc, we thought it fit to make on his birthday a worthwhile
discussion on higher education,” the VC said.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the research papers of the University
were brought out in news bulletins.
Steps had been taken to upload them on the University website.
Digitisation of books
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam has come forward to digitise books
published prior to 1950 for the University, Rajendran said.
G. Baskaran, Registrar of the University, said that Azad’s
birthday was celebrated as Education Day in the country.
