Exhibition of medical books under way
Chennai: For the medical student, this could be the ultimate
stopover in their quest for knowledge.
An exhibition of medical books that began at the Tamil Nadu
Dr. MGR Medical University on Monday features more than one
lakh titles, with a combined value estimated to be Rs. 10 crore.
About 12 publishers are participating in the 13th edition of
the exhibition.
The exhibition, which is open from 9.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., will
conclude on November 15. Inaugurating the event, Vice-Chancellor
K. Meer Mustafa Hussain said the exhibition would be useful
for students, faculty and practitioners.
Library accredited
Meanwhile, the university library has been accredited as a regional
medical library for south India by the Union Ministry of Health.
The library, which does not have a holiday throughout the year,
has a collection of 27,500 books, 170 international journals
and 20,000 dissertations.
The library’s 1,400 life members and 4,600 annual members
include health science professionals, faculties, research scholars
and students of affiliated colleges.
The university established a digital library in 2002 and upgraded
it as a virtual library in 2005.
The university has also established a virtual library consortium
to disseminate e-resources for the benefit of 288 medical and
paramedical affiliate institutions. From December, the university
plans to allow users to access e-journals through the website
www.tnmmu.ac.in
