“Common syllabus from next academic year”
Tirunelveli: The common syllabus system for each course to be
implemented in universities and affiliated colleges across the
State may come into effect the next academic year, R.T. Sabapathy
Mohan, Vice-Chancellor, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, has
said.
“Since uniformity in university education is essential,
this arrangement will facilitate migration of students from
one university to another,” he said, addressing the 30th
Senate meeting held here on Wednesday.
Dr. Sabapathy Mohan said the recent meeting of Vice-Chancellors
and Minister for Higher Education K. Ponmudy extensively discussed
the need to have a uniform syllabus. One university, with excellent
infrastructure and exceptional faculty for a subject, will be
asked to prepare the syllabus for that subject. This university
will coordinate with the chairpersons of the Board of Studies
of other universities while preparing the syllabus. After discussions,
the common syllabus will be introduced in other universities
too.
Relief fund
Dr. Sabapathy Mohan donated his one-month salary of Rs.55,555
to the Sri Lankan Tamils Relief Fund, established by the State
