Amendments to Ph.D. regulations approved
Chennai: The Academic Council of the University of Madras, which
met on Saturday, approved amendments to the Ph. D. regulations.
The Syndicate, at a meeting held in August, had accepted the
recommendations of the Board of Research Studies to revise the
qualifications for registration and appointment of guides.
The supervisor now requires a minimum of two years of teaching/research
experience, as against the previous criterion of one year. It
has been decided to permit lecturers of affiliated colleges
to register for part-time Ph.D. on the same guidelines adopted
for school teachers for doing their doctorate.
The Council also considered introduction of several new graduate,
postgraduate diploma, diploma and certificate courses through
distance education. Among the courses to be introduced are Bachelor’s
course, P.G. diploma, diploma and certificate course in naturopathy
and yogic sciences, one-year PG diploma in enterprise computing,
one-year PG diploma in remote infrastructure management and
a diploma in airhostess and aviation hospitality.
Members also introduced regulations and the syllabus for the
first-year courses of Master of Social Work, Bachelor of Social
Work, B.Sc. in Visual Communication, Electronic Media and Journalism
under the Choice Based Credit System.
The newly designed prospectus for Ph.D. and academic calendar
for colleges was circulated.
