Varsity adopts cluster college concept
Tiruchi: Bharathidasan University has decided to promote a cluster
approach among colleges affiliated to it. The programme aims
at promoting a set of clusters in each revenue district for
sharing the infrastructure.
Colleges in each cluster would be able to make optimum utilisation
of available resources within their periphery, said M. Ponnavaikko,
Vice-Chancellor.
Presiding over a meeting of the Standing Committee on Academic
Affairs on Saturday, the Vice-Chancellor said that the university
had nominated co-ordinators for promoting the concept among
affiliated colleges in the central districts.
Finding that there were little takers for the basic sciences,
particularly Botany, Physics, and Zoology, the Vice-Chancellor
said that efforts should be taken to make the syllabi more attractive.
The Vice-Chancellor advised the members of the committee to
introduce practical tests for relevant courses at the end of
every semester, instead of annual tests.
Syllabi for the future
Dr. Ponnavaikko appealed to the members of the Committee to
ensure that the syllabi not only improved the academic skills
of students, but also imbibed in them a sense of confidence
about their future prospects, especially with regard to employability.
The university, he said, wanted to ensure immediate placement
to students on completion of higher education.
Registrar Ramasamy and Controller of Examinations K. Raja were
present at the meeting.
