100 acres for IIM marked
Tiruchi: Bharathidasan University has earmarked 100 acres on
its premises for the proposed Indian Institute of Management
(IIM).
A rough sketch indicative of the area lying between the university
and the Anna University – Tiruchi had been forwarded to
the State Government through the district administration, Vice-Chancellor
M. Ponnavaikko said. The sketch was prepared after a meeting
the Vice-Chancellor had with Collector T. Soundiah last week.
The State Government is said to be pursuing the proposal for
establishing the IIM in Tiruchi in right earnest with the Ministry
of Human Resource Development to ensure that the coveted Central
institution gets functional from the next academic year.
Out of about 1,000 acres originally in the possession of the
26-year-old Bharathidasan University, nearly 350 acres of land
was ceded for the new Anna University – Tiruchi two years
back. After providing land for the IIM, BU will be left with
a little over 500 acres.
