100 acres for IIM marked

Tiruchi: Bharathidasan University has earmarked 100 acres on its premises for the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM).

A rough sketch indicative of the area lying between the university and the Anna University – Tiruchi had been forwarded to the State Government through the district administration, Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaikko said. The sketch was prepared after a meeting the Vice-Chancellor had with Collector T. Soundiah last week.

The State Government is said to be pursuing the proposal for establishing the IIM in Tiruchi in right earnest with the Ministry of Human Resource Development to ensure that the coveted Central institution gets functional from the next academic year.

Out of about 1,000 acres originally in the possession of the 26-year-old Bharathidasan University, nearly 350 acres of land was ceded for the new Anna University – Tiruchi two years back. After providing land for the IIM, BU will be left with a little over 500 acres.
