Anna University detects false claims by colleges

Madurai: Pass percentage details of every engineering college in the State will be made available on Anna University website in a week’s time to prevent parents/students from getting carried away by misleading claims by institutions through advertisements.

Particulars of number of students who appeared for examinations in each branch and those who passed will be uploaded in the university website immediately after the results are published, according to P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University (Chennai).

Speaking to The Hindu on Friday, he said that the Controller of Examinations had been asked to include in website actual pass percentage of all 260-odd affiliated engineering colleges.

The decision was taken after an engineering college in its advertisement claimed a pass percentage of 94 whereas the actual result secured was 74 per cent.

The Vice-Chancellor participated in the inaugural function of a two-day ‘Tamil Nadu State Level Placement Programme,’ organised by the university’s Centre for University Industry Collaboration, at the Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology, Virudhunagar, with participation from software major Cognizant Technology Solutions.

Harassment complaints
Complaints of harassment on campus were received from students against five engineering colleges in and around Chennai, besides complaints of infrastructure inadequacies, Dr. Jawahar said.

“We have contacted the principals and managements of those colleges immediately after receiving complaints and the university will have to take action if such things did not stop,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
