Integrating leading academicians, researchers, beginners, investors, industrialists and innovators, Anna University - Tiruchi (AU-T) will conduct an international seminar and workshop on ‘Medical and Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology: Latest Developments, Practical Considerations and Applications’, on September 25 and 26.

The seminar, designed for postgraduate students, researchers, faculty members and scientists, is aimed at educating, learning and sharing the knowledge on the principles, theory and concept of basic nanotechnology and its applications in medical and other related fields, and gaining hands-on experience.

For promoting and developing research work, the seminar will have dedicated sessions on the principles and concept of nanotechnology and its applications in medicine. According to P. Selvamani and S. Latha, organising secretaries, the spotlight of the seminar will be on cutting-edge technologies in nanomedicine.

Resource persons have been drawn from leading institutions in the country and abroad. G.K. Khuller, CSIR Emeritus Scientist, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Institute and Research, Chandigarh, will make a presentation on ‘Evolving vistas in nanotechnology-based anti-tubercular chemotherapy’, and Wang, Professor, Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, will detail on ‘Preparation and surface modification of magnetite nanoparticles and its application to the diagnosis and therapy of tumor’.

The other speakers are Yousef Haik, Professor and Director, Centre for Research Excellence in Nanobiosciences, University of North Carolina - Greensboro, USA (on Multifunctional Nanoparticles for Minimally Invasive Imaging Guided Interventions); Manikkam Sivakumar, Associate Professor, University of Nottingham, Malaysia (Cavitation – A Potential Green Technique for Production of Pharmaceutical Nanomaterials); N. Subramanian, Lecturer, AU-T (Nano Dispersed System for Ophthalmic Drug Delivery); Dhirendhar Bhadhur, Professor in Material Science, IIT Bombay (Nanoparticle Synthesis, Characterisation and Therapeutic Applications in Cancer by Hyperthermia); Muthusamy Sivakumar, AU-T (Inspired by Nature for the Detection of Biomolecule); N.S. Basavaraj, Consultant, GE Global Research, Bangalore (Silica Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications) and Yasemin Yazan, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Technology, Anadolu University, Turkiye (Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) Systems for Drug Delivery and Two Different Applications).
