213 students turn up for MBBS counselling
A total of 197 MBBS seats were allotted by Friday evening
Chennai: The first phase of scheduled counselling for admission
to MBBS seats for the year 2008-2009 began at the Directorate
of Medical Education here on Friday morning.
A total of 242 candidates were invited for the counselling.
Of this, 213 students turned up. The nine toppers had received
their allotment letters on Thursday.
A total of 197 MBBS seats were allotted by Friday evening. Quite
unusually, two students opted for BDS courses and were allotted
the same, according to J. Mohanasundaram, Secretary-Selection
Committee.
The first phase of counselling will continue until July 8. Students
have until July 10 to decide if they are going to take up or
relinquish their MBBS/BDS seat.
AIEEE counselling
Sixty one students turned up on the first day for the AIEEE–2008
counselling at the National Institute of Technology–Tiruchi
(NIT-T) on Friday.
A total of 157 students received call letters to attend the
on campus online counselling. They comprised 107 students under
open category, 42 OBC and eight SC students. Most of the students
are from Chennai region.
The Friday’s nation-wide counselling was for students
who had come within the first 5,000 ranks in the AIEEE. Over
3,000 students will attend the counselling over the next ten
days.
Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology is the venue
where the largest number of 14,943 students are expected to
attend the counselling for the next 10 days. The venue in the
southern States that would be hosting the highest number of
students is the National Institute of Technology at Warangal
in Andhra Pradesh.
The counselling for nine days will be for various B.Tech programmes.
On the final day, counselling for B.Arch will be conducted,
P. Jayabalan, Dean – Academic, NIT-T told reporters.
This time, staying back to fulfil admission formalities is only
an option for parents and students. They can return to their
destinations soon after counselling and know of the allotment
of courses through the Internet later in the day.
Admission is carried out automatically and the classes for first
year students will commence on July 21 at the NIT-T.
