Chennai: The University of Madras will conduct the third edition
of its job fair on July 5 and 6 on the Chepauk campus.
It wants to provide at least 2000 job offers, with salaries
ranging between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 20,000 for candidates who
have graduated any time after 2004, Vice-Chancellor S. Ramachandran
said on Monday.
Participating companies, including Zenta, Airtel, ICICI, HCL
and Team Lease, will offer jobs across several sectors, including
banking, finance, hospitality, telecom, international technical
support transaction processes and domestic BPO. About 12,000
candidates are expected to attend.
The university has tied up with Techruit, a placement service
firm, to organise the fair. Candidates can register on www.techruit.org
to take part in the pre-screening assessment tests either online
or through a paper-based test during the fair itself. They should
also bring 10 copies of their resume, 10 passport-sized photographs,
attested photocopies of their qualification certificates and
stationery for their written test. They need not bring original
certificates.

The university’s department of biochemistry signed a memorandum
of understanding with the World Noni Research Foundation for
conducting a research project on the use of Morinda citrifolia,
better known as the Indian mulberry, or noni, a plant used in
treating gliomas or cancerous tumours. The Rs. 8-lakh project
will be spread over three-and-half years.
The university has also signed an agreement with the Indian
Patent Office to train its officers in German. With the Patent
Office becoming an international searching body and preliminary
examining authority, its examiners and controllers are being
trained in German, French, Chinese and other languages.
