It is being established to streamline mushrooming teacher
training institutions and bring all B. Ed. colleges under
its fold, official sources told The Hindu on Friday. The move
would not only facilitate the government’s intention
to bring all institutions under one umbrella but also improve
the quality of teacher education.
Affiliation process
Giving more details, Secretary for Higher Education K. Ganesan,
when contacted, said all existing B. Ed. colleges in the State
would now be “transferred/affiliated” to the new
university. It would look into the process of affiliation
of new teacher training institutions.
He said at present each university had its own schedule of
admissions and examinations, which made it difficult to bring
uniformity among institutions offering B. Ed. course.
