Beware of bogus colleges, says VC

Coimbatore: Five B Ed colleges functioning in the Kongu region have been identified by the Bharathiar University (BU) as 'bogus' colleges, as they had not obtained any affiliation to conduct courses.

Prof G Thiruvasagam, vice-chancellor of BU, pointed out during a press conference here on Thursday that Kumudha College at Nambiyur in Gobichettypalayam had not obtained any affiliation.

He said that students should be aware of the status of the college before joining and added that some colleges were even functioning without any permission from the university.

As many as 37 B Ed colleges are functioning under the BU, which are affiliated to it. Five colleges were found to be violating the university rules and strict action would be taken against them, the V-C remarked.

In fact, the university will soon release a list of unaffiliated colleges and publish it in newspapers to make the people and students in particular, aware of these institutions.

"Parents and students should ensure whether a college is affiliated or not before seeking admission. If they come at the last moment and ask for hall tickets to write the examination, it will not be entertained," Thiruvasagam said.

The V-C expressed shock noticing the unaffiliated colleges releasing media advertisements and inviting applications for admissions and said that the university's inspection team will ensure the status of colleges. Many students have not realised the issue and have already joined these colleges.
