Saveetha Medical College launched
- College will offer a four-and-a-half year
course
- Intake will be 150 students for this academic
year
Chennai: Saveetha Medical College, a unit of
Saveetha University, will start admitting students
from this academic year as it has received approval from the
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The Medical Council of India finished its inspection in April
and the Ministry gave its approval this month, said N.M. Veeraiyan,
Chancellor, Saveetha University. The college, located at Thandalam
between Sriperumbudur and Poonamallee, will offer a four and
a half year course.
Issue of application forms is on. They are also available on
www.saveetha.com.
The intake will be 150 students for this academic year. An entrance
test will be conducted on August 14.
The result and rank list will be announced on August 18, and
counselling will begin on August 20.
The fee is Rs.4 lakh per year, said Murugesan Kannan, Vice-Principal
of Saveetha Medical College. Hostel and transport charges will
be extra. For the NRI quota, 23 seats have been reserved.The
syllabus is as prescribed by the Medical Council of India.
In-house learning system
A learning management system developed in-house will be introduced
in the first week of September, Dr. Kannan said.
The medical college, spread over 2.5 lakh square feet, is attached
to a hospital, which has 325 beds and 200 doctors.
Campus recruitment
Around 900 students attended a recruitment drive organised at
the Saveetha Engineering College, a self-financing
college affiliated to the Anna University, here on Friday.
Students from Saveetha Engineering College and other colleges,
including Rajalakshmi Engineering College and Sri Sastha Institute
of Engineering and Technology, attended the programme, said
R.Venkataswamy, college principal. A total of 22 students were
recruited by software services firm i-Flex Solutions, of which
16 were from Saveetha Engineering College.
