Students evince interest in integrated MBA programme

Tiruchi: Eighty-five second-year B.E./B.Tech students of Anna University – Tiruchi have evinced interest in enrolling themselves for the newly-introduced Integrated MBA programme.

The university had deemed eligible only those without any arrear in the first year for the integrated degree programme. By spending an additional year, they would be receiving their engineering degree and an MBA degree.

The contents of the first year MBA programme would be spread over the second, third and fourth years under trimester pattern for the admitted students for whom three hours of regular classes would be held in the evenings. Two courses would be completed for each of the 10 trimesters and one each in the last two trimesters in order to help students devote adequate time for their final-year project in undergraduation.

These students would be required to devote one full year after their graduation to complete their second year of MBA, opting for any of the four specialisations: Finance, Human Resource, Marketing and Systems, said V. Damodaran, Chairman, Department of Management Studies and Director, Centre for University-Industry Collaboration. The programme is likely to be extended to affiliated colleges in phases, he said, informing that the response for the university’s regular two-year full-time MBA programme was also encouraging. There were about 120 applicants for the 60 seats.

On a pattern similar to the Integrated MBA programme, the five-year dual degree programme that the university has introduced to enable students in core engineering disciplines to acquire an additional degree in IT has attracted 45 applications. So far, students of core engineering used to undertake studies in private institutions to equip themselves for IT jobs. Through the dual degree provision, the university would equip them in IT operations related to their domain knowledge.

During the fifth year, they would study only IT.
