Fees in government polytechnics to go

Chennai: There will be NO Tuition Fee in Government Polytechnics from the coming academic year.

This was announced by Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy in the Assembly on Wednesday. An annual fee of Rs.2,500 was being collected from students in government polytechnics. Acceding to a request from N. Nanmaran of the CPI (M), the government decided to stop collecting the fee, he said.


There are 22 government polytechnics with a sanctioned intake of 5,160 students and 34 government-aided polytechnics with an intake of 12,980.
