VC for more Tamil-related programmes in colleges
COIMBATORE: Lamenting over the quality of programmes conducted
in colleges in the name of culturals, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar
University G. Thiruvasagam has announced the establishment of
a “Bharathi Tamil Mandram” in every college.
Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, he said that Tamil-related
programmes were found to be on the decline in educational institutions.
“This is not a good trend. To restore the glory of Tamil,
I have decided to establish a mandram in the university and
will also persuade the colleges to create one. Seed money of
Rs. 2,000 will be given to the colleges to set up the mandram.”
The mandram would regularly organise programmes. A Tamil Day
would be observed once a year. Colleges which failed to set
up the mandram would cease to get continuous affiliation.
The norms for conduct of culturals and the time limit would
be made stringent and the colleges would be notified of the
same.
