National conference on Varmololgy on May 11

COIMBATORE: A national conference on Varmology (or Varmam, which is described as a holistic Indian medical system) will be held at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University here on May 11. It has been organised by Arts Research Institute, a Coimbatore-based charitable trust. The institute defines Varmam as one of the country’s ancient systems of medicine. The word Varmam denotes ‘energy in the body’.

‘Life energy’
It can also be called ‘life energy’. The places where this energy resides in the body are Varmam points.

The basic objective of the Varmam system of medicine is to stimulate these points to cure disease.

The institute says it has been spreading the science of Varmam in the State since 2005. Nearly 700 registered medical practitioners, across different systems of medicine, have learnt Varmology through ARI, it says in a release. ARI has 14 treatment centres across India, including 10 in the State.

It has one each in Pondicherry, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and New Delhi. There are 60 doctors across various disciplines, who serve patients at these centres.

The institute claims that nearly 10,000 people receive Varmam treatment each month through it. Some of the objectives of the conference are: to highlight the areas where Varmam treatment extended by ARI has shown positive results; to have medical practitioners trained in Varmam share the results of their practice with their peers; to demonstrate that this form of treatment has the ability to effect medicine-less cures and to show that Varmam does not have any side effect or adverse effects.

The institute also wants to show how Varmam functions effectively in conjunction with Siddha, Ayurveda, Allopathy, Homeopathy, Physiotherapy and Naturopathy treatment systems.

Through this conference, it also wishes to announce its intention to expand the reach of Varmam medicine, closely bound to the Tamil language till date, and make it accessible to all Indians. The institute wants to encourage further research into Varmology, so that it may take its rightful place as a universal medical science.

It also plans to work towards achieving recognition and patent protection for Varmology as an Indian system of medicine. Papers on how Varmam can cure osteoarthritis, cervical and lumbar spondylosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, thyroid dysfunction, diabetes, bronchial asthma and many other diseases will be presented at the conference .
