Varsity plans MA Public Administration in Tamil
CHENNAI: The University of Madras will introduce a Masters degree
programme in Public Administration (Tamil medium) from the coming
academic year.
The course — M.A. Public Administration — will be
offered at a fee of Rs.4,800 per year. “The course is
aimed at equipping aspiring civil servants with knowledge of
public administration in our country,” vice-chancellor
S. Ramachandran said here on Saturday.
Addressing press persons in connection with the Syndicate meeting
held earlier in the day, Prof. Ramachandran said four centres
for distance learning would be set up in New Delhi, Amritsar,
Kasargod and Shillong.
A sum of Rs.90 lakh had been allotted to set up language labs
on the Chepauk and Guindy campuses of the University of Madras.
The University would also sign four memoranda of understanding
with the Anna Institute of Management and institutions in Thailand,
Sri Lanka and France.
A total of Rs.1.10 crore has been allocated for procuring equipment
for different laboratories in the University. “We also
have Rs.30 crore of the Rs.100 crore grant allocated to us by
the University Grants Commission,” Prof. Ramachandran
added.
As many as 55 faculty members would be recruited soon.
Other decisions taken during the meeting included reduction
in course fee for the Masters course in Bharatanatyam. The fee,
earlier Rs.25,000, has now been reduced to Rs.17,000.
