Vice-Chancellor warns against unauthorised B. Ed. colleges

There are 49 colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University
  • List of the colleges is available on www.b-u.ac.in
  • Strength to be admitted in B. Ed. courses is stipulated at 100
COIMBATORE: Bharathiar University Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam has cautioned students and their parents against B. Ed. colleges that function without due affiliation of the university.

He told The Hindu that some students had approached him for regularisation of the non-affiliation status of the colleges where they were admitted. The students came to know of the status only during the conduct of examinations.

“Some colleges had advertised themselves, given admissions and were conducting classes without the concurrence of the university..

At the time of the examinations, students came to know that the college was not affiliated to the university. When they realised that the university will not be in a position to award them degrees, they came to me for a solution,” said the Vice-Chancellor.

Mr. Thiruvasagam regularised the colleges and registered the students as part of the university.

“Serious steps could have been taken against the institutions, but considering the future of the students who had already spent time attending classes as well as giving the examinations, it was regularised. In future, it will be made very strict.”

The Vice-Chancellor has advised the students and parents to go through the website of the university www.b-u.ac.in to get the list of B. Ed. colleges that were affiliated to the university before applying for the courses. The present number of affiliated colleges were 49.

Also, the strength to be admitted in the B. Ed. course was stipulated at 100 and that of the M. Ed. was 25.
