Women engineers outperform men in education
but not at work
TIRUCHENGODE: Women students of engineering outperform men when
it comes to marks.
They however, fall behind men at work, R. Radhakrishnan, vice
chancellor, Anna University, Coimbatore, has said.
Delivering the graduation day address at the third graduation
day celebrations at Vivekanandha College of Engineering
for Women, near here, on Wednesday, he said women engineers
faced more challenges than men, which was reflected at work
places.
At colleges, girls outshine boys by bagging maximum number of
ranks. But the meritorious performance is not to be found at
companies or factories where men hold most top positions, he
said.
Anna University, Coimbatore, the vice chancellor said, had plans
to provide more opportunities for women in engineering education
by opening a women’s college.
As for the self-financed colleges for women, he said, permissions
for five only-woman colleges are awaited.
On the teaching-learning methodology, he said in the digitised
world, question papers and evaluation would be done online
Further, teachers would be asked to undergo faculty development
programmes on emerging areas in respective fields.
Chairman and Secretary of Vivekanandha group of institutions
M. Karunanithi declared open the convocation, in which around
1,000 students received degree certificates. Principal P. Thirunavukkarasu
welcomed the gathering.
