Grading system for all colleges
For evaluating students in exams
TAMBARAM: The system of assessing students’ performance
in examinations though grading method will replace the conventional
system of allotting marks in colleges across the State from
the 2008–2009 academic year, K. Ganesan, Higher Education
Secretary, said on Tuesday. He said the grading method would
be applicable to all arts and sciences and technical institutions.
Students evaluated under the conventional system from here encountered
certain problems when they went abroad for employment and higher
studies, he said, while pointing out that grading method was
followed the world over.
A difference by a few percentage points separated students who
are in the same levels and grading method would eliminate that,
Mr. Ganesan said.
"Be innovative"
The official also exhorted the students to be innovative during
their academic days and also after getting a job.
Gopikrishna Gaddam, Head, Campus Relation, Cognizant Technology
Solutions, delivered the keynote address and distributed prizes
to meritorious students and former students of the college currently
employed with his company.
S. N. Bhatt, chairman, and T. Sumithra, Principal, also spoke.
A cultural programme by students was also presented.
