Symposium on IT trends
Chennai: SMK Fomra Institute of Technology (SMKFIT)
hosted a one-day national symposium ‘Le Magnanimous’
last Friday. The department of computer science & engineering,
department of information technology and postgraduate department
of computer applications, SMKFIT, jointly organised this symposium.
‘Le Magnanimous’ was conducted to exhibit the technical
talents of engineering students and to enhance their skills.
The symposium threw light on the recent trends in information
technology, focusing on data warehousing, data mining, neural
network, robotics and grid computing.
The chief guest, V. Srinivasa Raghavan, senior consultant, TCS,
Chennai, in his address briefed the students on how the industry
functions and what it expects from employees. He stressed the
need for students to augment their technical skills with domain
knowledge. He also emphasised the need for setting up low cost,
cutting edge systems in short time frames, and underlined the
role of young IT aspirants in software re-use. A total of 530
students from 53 colleges across India participated in the symposium.
The students sent in over 450 entries for paper presentations
in topics that included artificial neural networks, network
security, wireless technology, nanotechnology, data mining &
data warehousing, grid computing, natural language processing
and mobile computing. Twentyfour papers were selected for presentation
on the day of the symposium.
The first prize went to Charanya and Amudavalli from Crescent
College of Engineering for their paper titled ‘Wireless
Technology - ZIG B & its applications’. The second
prize went to Shamshuzia & Poornima of Meenakshi Sunderrajan
College of Engineering for their paper titled ‘Security
in Wireless Communications’.
Besides technical events such as Tech Quiz, Mock Interview,
Hardware Assembly, Debugging, Programming, non-technical events
such as Gaming, Face Painting, Block ‘n’ Tackle,
and Mobile Photography were held.
