Anna varsity-Tiruchi to start two colleges
- Process of setting up a college in Ramanathapuram
district begins
- Number of affiliated colleges may go up to 57 from 51
TIRUCHI: Anna University–Tiruchi is likely to start two
constituent engineering colleges during the coming academic
year.
Of the seven such colleges it proposed to start in 11 districts
earlier this academic year, to make quality education affordable
to rural students, the university has decided to go ahead with
the college at Panruti in Cuddalore district, offering BE in
mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical and electronics,
electronics and communication, computer science engineering
and information technology.
With the recent inspection and clearance of the site in Ramanathapuram
district by Vice-Chancellor V. Ramachandran, the process of
starting the second college has got off.
The other five colleges are to be started in subsequent years
in Perambalur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Pudukottai
districts.
Incidentally, out of the 20 such colleges the Government has
planned through the four technical universities, Anna University-Tiruchi
has the highest share of seven.
While Anna University–Chennai and Anna University–Tirunelveli
will start four each, Anna University–Coimbatore will
launch five colleges.
Officials of the Anna University-Tiruchi expect the number of
affiliated colleges in its jurisdiction to go up to 57 from
51 at the start of the next academic year.
The university has received applications from registered societies/trusts
for starting three colleges. Three more applications are expected
in the coming weeks.
