Pact for cooperation in higher education
Agreement for collaborative research and exchange of reports
MUTUAL: Stanley Aeschleman, Executive Vice-Chancellor of Appalachian
State University (right) and T. Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar,
Principal, American College, exchanging documents.
MADURAI: In an effort to take educational standards to global
level and bestow friendship and cooperation in higher education,
a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Appalachian
State University, North Carolina, and the American College
here on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, T. Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar, Principal,
harked back to the American College’s founding fathers
and their historical idea of providing a holistic liberal science
education. The idea was ingrained with a pluralist attitude
of reaching the marginalised sections of society interweaving
both tradition and modernity during colonial and the post-colonial
times. During the post-colonial era, the college was involving
itself in the nation-building exercise with its emphasis on
scientific education thus giving a good number of technocrats
to the nation from this part of the world.
The Principal termed the signing of MOU as a Red Letter Day
in American friendship and cooperation in higher education.
The 119-year-old Appalachian State University, for the first
time in its global endeavours focusing India, has chosen the
127-year-old American College as one of its six locations in
the country. Representing the Appalachian State University and
leading the 7-member team of delegates were Stanley Aeschleman,
Provost and Executive Vice-Chancellor of the university, and
Jesse Lutabingwa, Associate Vice-Chancellor for International
Education and Development.
Mr. Jesse, in his address, said that the agreement would be
a mutually beneficial relationship between the institutions.
Mr. Stanley said that the MoU was a strategic initiative to
go global and establish academic relationship based on reciprocity
with a strong emphasis to connect cultures.
The agreement is for reciprocal exchange of faculty, students,
collaborative research and exchange of reports and publications.
