Higher education– a gateway to the world

India, known as the land of great civilisation and cultural heritage, is now fast emerging as the Knowledge Capital of the World. The future of higher education as envisaged by the National Knowledge Commission (NKC) is poised for a greater growth.

By the year 2015, the NKC wants India to have around 1,500 universities, taking the enrolment to at least 15 per cent of the relevant age group of the population. It also spells out that there is a need to increase the outlay of public spending in higher education to at least 1.5 per cent of the GDP.

The Bharathiar University has taken giant strides in providing Empowering Education, which is value-based and is enriching the students with fundamental knowledge and practical skill orientation through many programmes at the graduate, post-graduate, research and doctorate level.

This university has made critical changes to the curriculum with professional inputs. The university is home to many international students, especially students from China – a positive development in the annals of the institution. It must be stated that the higher education system is on the threshold of greater success, spreading its reach to many more deserving students, empowering them with Knowledge, which is Power. The universities and colleges play a vital role in advancing the cause of ‘Education with Excellence’.

Today with the advancement of science and civilisation, it is bound to grow in size and stature with excellence and dynamism to remain as a valuable Gateway to the World.
