University takes students on board
Madurai: If regular students of universities and colleges land
jobs through campus recruitment, those who pursue distance education
courses are not left behind.
The websites of universities usually give information about
courses and admissions. But, the website of the Directorate
of Distance Education of Madurai Kamaraj University boasts of
an additional feature. As one clicks open www.mkudde.org, he
sees a table with the caption, ‘jobs for our students.’
It provides details of companies that wish to recruit students.
It gives the contact person’s name and telephone number.
“This is an attempt to take care of distance education
students by showing them job openings. We have started with
Sutherland Global Services, Chennai, which approached us for
a provision in the university’s website,” says S.
Vadivelu, Director of Distance Education.
According to Dr. Vadivelu, Sutherland Global Services requested
that it be given a database of students, but the university
suggested that job details be posted on its website for effective
reach. Right now, the company is offering job opportunities
for those who have passed their final year examinations.
Another company that may enter the website is Pantaloon, whose
employees are to be enrolled for courses in retail management.
Jobs are coming nearer to all, and the distance is getting narrowed.
