Engineering design contest winners get prizes
Chennai: The Product Development and Management Association
distributed prizes to winners of its national-level design contest
for engineering students here recently.
Lucas TVS executive director K.R. Anandakumaran Nair said with
several students opting for careers in the field of information
technology, the engineering industry was reporting a shortage
of talent in research and development.
R.M.K. Engineering College chairman R. S. Munirathinam
said the national-level design contest received 48 entries of
which, 20 were shortlisted. Former vice-chancellor of Madras
University S. Sathik was on the panel of judges, along with
representatives from industry. The team from IIT Kanpur bagged
the first prize of Rs. 1 lakh in absentia. Mayank Jain of Maharaja
Agarsen Institute of Technology, Delhi, won the second prize
of Rs. 50,000. The third prize of Rs. 35,000 was split between
the two teams from Easwari Engineering College
and Meenakshi Sundarajan Engineering College.
Four consolation prizes of Rs. 10,000 and special prizes of
Rs. 5000 were awarded to the other teams that reached the finals.
Teams had to conceptualise innovative solutions to engineering
problems of interest to industries.
