Colleges apply for M. Phil. courses
Tiruchi: As a new development, several colleges affiliated to
Bharathidasan University have submitted applications seeking
permission to start regular M.Phil. programmes this year.
So far, the university has sanctioned M. Phil. programme in
Commerce for four colleges, Economics for one college, English
for one, Botany for two, Chemistry for three, Computer Science
for three, Mathematics for one, Microbiology for two and Physics
for one college.
Applications from 20 more colleges for starting M.Phil. in one
or two disciplines will be scrutinised and sanctioned after
visits by inspection committees by the end of September, said
Registrar V. Radhakrishnan.
The M.Phil. programmes will be offered as per the revised guidelines
framed last year to tone up quality.
The number of theory papers has been increased to four, which
will include papers in emerging areas that may not have been
covered in post-graduation.
