Medical College told not to admit students
Chennai: The Madras High Court has permanently restrained the Kancheepuram-based
Rajendra Medical College Hospital and Research Institute from admitting students without
complying with mandatory rules.
The institution claimed to be an extension of the medical school of Southern Medical University,
Government of China.
Passing orders on a public interest litigation on Tuesday, the First bench of Chief Justice A.P.Shah
and Justice K.Chandru said: "It is the endeavour of this court to prevent the college from playing
with the careers of students and jeopardize their future irretrievably. We cannot allow the college to
function without legal sanction and without any infrastructure facilities and to run it as a business
venture with a view to making money from gullible individuals anxious to obtain admission to professional
colleges". Referring to a Supreme Court order, the Bench said: "This is nothing but a daring imposture
and skullduggery".
While admitting the petition in March 2006, the Bench had passed an interim order directing the medical
college not to start admission until further orders.
