MCAS-BIO 2007 - "Biotechnology: Past, Present and Future"


Inaugural Function: Souvenir book released by Dr.S.Ignacimuthu, Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Madras, Chennai & Bharathiar University, Coimbatore

Rasipuram: A national level Biological congress on “MCAS-Bio2007 Biotechnology:Past, Present and Future” was a two day seminar organized by the Departments of Bioscience, Muthayammal College of Arts and Science, Rasipuram on 05-01-2007 and 06-01-2007. This seminar was sponsored by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST), Chennai and National Council for Science and Technology Communications (NCSTC), New Delhi and Muthayammal Educational Institutions.


Rev.Dr.S.Ignachimuthu, Director Entomology Research Institute, Loyolo College, who is one of the renowned biotechnologists delivered the inaugural address. Noted among the invited speakers are Prof.V.Krishnamurthy, Director, Krishnamurthy Institute of Algology, Chennai, Dr.R.S.Prakasam, Scientist, Indian Institute of Chemical Techonology, Hyderabad, Dr.K.Thangaraj, Scientist, CCMB, Hyderabad, Dr.E.M.Elango, Head, Department of Molecular Biology, Amrita Cancer Research Institute, Cochin, Dr.S.Parthasarathi, Head, Department of Bio-Informatics, Bharathidasan University, Trichy and Dr.A.Gnanamani, Scientist, CLRI, Chennai. A special future of the function is that 85 Years old scientist, who is still pursuing research Dr.V.Krishnamurthy, Director, Krishnamurthy Institute of Algology, Chennai was felicitated for his life time achievements.

In the valedictory function, Dr.L.Kannan, Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore addressed the participants.

About 200 papers were presented in the seminar.
