Committee report on CET next month
Chennai:To put an end to the confusion prevailing among the student community over the Common Entrance Test (CET) for professional courses, the expert committee headed by M Anandakrishnan would submit its report to the government next month.
The first public hearing by the committee was held in Anna University yesterday to discuss about CET. Public from various walks of life participated and spoke about the pros and cons of conducting the entrance examination.
Seeman, a educationalist who spoke in favour of conducting CET said 'appropriate training should be given to the teachers in rural areas to prepare the students for entrance examinations'.
Also some educationalists suggested to conduct CET and requested the school authorities to prepare the students while they are studying.
Consortium of Self Financing Professional, Arts and Science Colleges in Tamilnadu chairman Jeppiaar spoke on cancelling the CET and said a mere pass pass in the Plus Two board examinations should be consider for admission.
Higher Education secretary K Ganesan said last year out of 66,000 students who appeared for entrance examination only 1,500 were from CBSE and of them only 73 students took part in the counselling session.
After listening to the views of the public, Anandakrishnan said the committee was examining the data from the past three years of the entrance examinations and a decision would be taken to safeguard the students.
He said the committee would submit its report to the government in September and any public opinion can be mailed through lo@tndte.gov.in before 20 September. The next public hearing would be held in Madurai on 13 August.
